Despite BJP president L.K. Advani giving CM Narendra Modi a clean chit, the rebel camp doesn’t seem to be in a mood to relent. In fact, they are reportedly rustling up a memorandum with details of allegations about how Modi accorded ‘special’ favours in hefty tax concessions to selected industrial houses. Modi’s detractors in his own party allege that he ordered tapping of the phones of BJP leaders, used the state intelligence machinery to raid business premises of party MLAs. Some Sangh parivar subsidiaries are also on the warpath. The VHP, the ABVP, the Vidya Bharati, the Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad, they’re all upset with Modi. Advani may play down the crisis, but matters are coming to a head. Even a cabinet expansion and appointments to boards and corporations may not resolve this one.
