THE Maruti 800 has top billing as a car for the '90s. It is easy to drive, has high fuel efficiency and low maintenance. And with 90 per cent of vehicles lifted being Maruti 800s, it is steadily gaining notoriety for being by far the most vulnerable.

What makes the Maruti 800 more susceptible than other cars is its easily pick-able locking system. Any Maruti owner will tell you the ease with which he has opened his car after locking it and forgetting the key inside. All it requires to open the lock is a metal scale which is eased in through the gap between the window and the rubber beading on the driver's door. The operation takes about 30 seconds.
