The media cauldron in Andhra Pradesh has just been given a vigorous stir. And not only because the chief minister's son has launched a new Telugu daily but that he has stormed the market with no less than 23 editions of it. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's son Jaganmohan has emerged as the latest player in the already crowded fourth estate. The CM's 34-year-old son, whose business interests include mini hydel projects, mining, construction and cement, launched Telugu daily Saakshi (Witness) on March 23 at a glitzy function in Hyderabad.
The CM's son obviously lays great store by the number 23, the date of the paper's launch as well as the number of its editions. Nineteen of these will be from Andhra Pradesh, and four others from New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. "The launch of 23 editions at one go is a first of its kind in the country and perhaps the world as well," says S. Ramakrishna Reddy, executive director, Saakshi.
