Daryl Harper is the only man in the history of not just first-class but municipality road cricket, to have given a batsman (Sachin in Australia) out lbw after the ball hit his ducking head, and Asoka De Silva stands as confidently as a refugee in the Caribbeans waiting for free rice.

After asking the third umpire to adjudicate something in the second Test that was none of his business, De Silva ruled Sachin out lbw in the third when the ball, according to elementary physics, was going over the bails. Among the many other slips, Harper in the first Test gave Brian Lara out caught behind perhaps deeming that the air around the bat was also part of the wood. Thankfully they will not be around for the final two Tests. —MJ
