MDMK chief Vaiko must be feeling lonely in Vellore jail. So, his party treasurer and Union minister of state for non-conventional energy M. Kannappan, who too holds some conventional MDMK views on the LTTE, has perhaps decided to give Vaiko company. He went public with his pro-LTTE views at a party function in Tamil Nadu on September 17. The Jaya government, which booked Vaiko under POTA more than a year ago, predictably asked that Kannappan be dropped from the cabinet. Deputy PM L.K. Advani conveniently put the ball in the prime minister’s court. But what is intriguing is Amma’s reluctance to call for action against Bal Thackeray for asking the Centre to rope in the ltte to counter Islamic militancy.
