Trash Of The Fortnight : Set Max's World Cup coverage

Set Max’s World Cup coverage is bad vaudeville. You have an under-dressed Mandira Bedi, whose idea of dressing up, anyway, is an ill-fitting bustier. She also makes you squirm in embarrassment—"Let’s take a lick at Jonty Rhodes." There’s a nose-twitching, leg-shivering, squinting Srikanth—Kris to Mandira, Mr Hyper to the hapless captive audiences—who howls that Saurav Ganguly should take captaincy lessons from Australia’s Ricky Martin. Then there’s the defining scoop: a grovelling Sanjay Manjrekar talking to Lok Sabha speaker Manohar Joshi who’s confident that eventually India "will make it to the finals and, also semi-finals". There’s also a tongue-tied Robin Singh who has a lump in his throat every time scanty Bedi asks him a question. Then there’s Maria Goretti fixated on Brett Lee’s blue eyes. The Men in Blue and Set Max are made for each other: both are equally pathetic. But don’t the suckers, sorry fans, deserve better?
