Muslims in Gujarat may fear the BJP, but those who are with the Congress are upset with it for not doing anything for the community post-riots. When 35 Muslim Congressmen of the state—many of them district- and taluka-level figures—met recently in Ahmedabad, the most-repeated complaint was that despite most panchayats being controlled by the Congress, Muslim party workers have had to run from pillar to post to get even something small done. According to senior Congress leader J.V. Momin, a bigger convention is being planned shortly to gather at least 1,000 Muslim party workers and their local leaders. The idea is to prepare a detailed document of their problems. They feel the Congress needs to address the community’s problems urgently.
