Months ahead of the “biggest sporting spectacle” in the capital, an army of labourers set up camp in the capital to build a “21st-century” Delhi. Their children, left behind in temporary shelters while they toiled for meagre wages, watched a new city rise from the rubble, unaware of the legacy that their parents were building for future generations. As they lived out their childhood in these makeshift shelters and huts and on pavements, the Outlook principal photographer undertook a three-month exercise to capture their lives on camera. This is his, and their, story.
