Anyone above 45 can get the ­Covid ­vaccine from April 1. The Centre ­announced expansion of the inoculation drive amid a surge in cases. Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu account for 80.90 per cent of 40,715 cases reported on March 23, taking the all-India tally to nearly 1.17 crore. India’s active caseload is rising after touching its lowest in mid-February.

Dattatreya Hosabale, 65, has replaced 73-year-old Suresh ‘Bhaiyyaji’ Joshi as Sarkaryawah or general secretary­—No. 2 in the RSS. Karnataka-born Hosabale joined the Sangh in 1968, initially with the ABVP. RSS leaders Ram Lal and Ram Madhav, who were deputed to the BJP, returned to their parent organisation.

Ashoka University has been at the centre of an academic freedom debate. Pratap Bhanu Mehta, who had resigned as VC two years ago, quit as professor, saying the founders made it “clear” that his association with the institution was a “political liability”. Economist Arvind Subramanian resigned in solidarity.
