Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui walked out of Indore central jail on ­Saturday night, a day after the ­Supreme Court granted him bail in a case of allegedly hurting religious sentiments. Faruqui was in Indore jail since January 1 and the Madhya Pradesh High Court had rejected his bail plea.

Actor-activist Deep Sidhu, wanted for the violence at Delhi’s Red Fort on Republic Day, has been arrested near Karnal in Haryana and remanded in police custody for a week. A Delhi Police officer said the 36-year-old actor-activist was on the run, but was posting videos on social media through a contact abroad.

Y.S. Sharmila, sister of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, has held talks with her late father’s sympathisers, triggering ­speculation that she plans to start a political party in Telangana without her brother’s ­intervention. Sharmila had campaigned for the YSR Congress during the 2019 general elections, but she was not seen much in public since.
