The Lure Of Sympathy
There’s nothing official about it yet but Chandrababu Naidu is seriously toying with the idea of dissolving the assembly and going in for an early election. The chief minister has been meeting senior TDP leaders to gauge the mood within his own party. Many of them believe an early election could be an advantage to the party as there’s no overwhelming anti-incumbency feeling. They also believe the party can bank on a sympathy wave of sorts following the abortive attempt on Naidu’s life at Tirupati last month. However, some warn the sympathy factor may evaporate by polling day as Naidu will be hard-pressed to explain why he is dissolving the assembly. Naidu’s recent public addresses are, however, being interpreted as pre-election speeches. Worried they may be caught off-guard, the Congress has already launched its "election campaign" with a bus yatra across the state, which is meant to dispel the impression that the party is a divided house in Andhra.
