In the Sriram Mills rape case, DNA tests nailed Abhishek Kasliwal, the accused in the March 12 rape of a 52-year-old woman whom he had offered a lift. The 27-year-old scion of industrialist-tycoon Ambuj Kasliwal was granted bail on April 18 on condition that he not enter Mumbai till the trial was over. He’s required to report to the nearest police station in Delhi—where he’ll stay—twice a week. This move was to ensure he does not influence witnesses or those investigating the case. Now with Kasliwal’s DNA samples matching those found on the victim’s body, as well as forensic evidence of injury to the victim’s body, the defence’s arguments of consensual sex might have to be put to rest.
