For something being done for the first time in the world, it’s a rather silent scream. But Durga Jasraj hopes the Radiant Award for fusion music will reverberate in the ears of every music lover whose love lies somewhere between straitjacketed traditional and film pop. According to her, even though India has produced great fusion music from artistes like Ravi Shankar, Trilok Gurtu, L. Shankar and L. Subramaniam, there’s no formal recognition for the genre. And she plans to do it in style. Cult Fusion Summer Jam, the son et lumiere event to announce the award on June 1, promises to be a "journey of sound". Ranjit Barot and his merry tribe perform in the favourite old venue—Rang Bhavan. A month later the event will be held at Bangalore. Jasraj also hopes to have a winter jam this year-end.
