Sweetish House Mafia
Mathurdas Mills Compund, N.M. Joshi Marg, Lower Parel, Mumbai
Cookie binge for two: Rs 600
In the tiny blue and white eatery, two office-goers stop by for some sugar and comfort. They study the specialised menu and shake their heads in wonder. “In Mumbai,” they tell each other, “all you need is a good concept”.
For Sweetish House Mafia, the concept is simple but brave. For the entire eatery is about a single product: cookies. The little glass counter holds six varieties. And the menu offers skimmed milk, coffee, green tea and cookie-based milkshakes.
For over a year, SHM operated out of a Nano, which roamed the city with a trove of freshly baked cookies.
The new SHM outlet is a charming space, filled with the promise of chocolate and cinnamon. We decide to sample all the cookies and find each one satisfying in its own way. The children love the crunchy, classic chocolate chip and adore the moist double chocolate chip.
The peanut butter fans enjoy the peanut butter cookie, though I wouldn’t order it again. While I love the chewy but restrained oatmeal cookie.
But there are two favourites. The Snickerdoodle is a cinnamony creation almost as luscious as apple pie. While the Nutella with Sea Salt is brilliant—the gooey sweetness offset by the bright crystals of sea salt. (All cookies for Rs 70, except Nutella and Sea Salt for Rs 125.)
By this point, we would have liked to order a savoury dish. But as the menu doesn’t offer any, we end with a refreshing double chocolate chip cookie milkshake (Rs 220). We bounce out on a sugar high, but less than a day later we are waiting for the Nano to make an appearance.
