Europeans may seem like bewildered onlookers in song-and-dance sequences of Govinda in Switzerland but they’re scrambling for more. Like they do for so many other things, Indian tourists follow Bollywood’s trail when they travel. So after Yash Chopra brought Switzerland to Indian homes and Hrithik Roshan did the same for New Zealand, Romania, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands are now scrambling for their piece of Salman, Shahrukh and company. Representatives from six countries came to lure Indian filmmakers at a recent convention designed to bring new locations to Bollywood producers. Not to be outdone by the foreign counterparts, Chhattisgarh CM Ajit Jogi announced a Rs 20-lakh rebate for films shot entirely in his state. He wants the film industry to use Chhattisgarh’s lush forests, the Bastar tribal area and the scenic Chitrakoot waterfalls as locations.

Jogi made the announcement in Mumbai at a function to mark the 90th birthday of noted film producer G.P. Sippy. The function was jointly organised by Chhattisgarh Tourism Development Board and the Indian Tourism Development Corporation on the occasion of a two-day film tourism conference in Mumbai. Jogi promised a single-window clearance to complete all formalities to shoot in the state.
