You were a marketing professional. How did writing happen?
I started writing the book for myself and my immediate circle. Publishing contract came along the way, but it remains a very intimate project.

One of the stories in the book was written as a birthday gift?
That was the first story. I had the habit of writing stories for gifts but this one took me in a new direction.

The characters in the book are unusual.
I find poetry on the fringes of imagination.

Your influences?
Conversations, films, books and cities. And the internet, without which it would've been impossible.

The book gives the sense that you're always on the move.
I have a great appreciation for journeys. I tend to prefer the kind of wisdom that comes from travel than the kind that comes from staying in one place.

So you don't feel rooted?
My life has been slightly nomadic. But that gives me roots in lots of places, which is good.

You're being hailed as the next major IWE.
I'm not Indian, so such labels...
