So what’s the latest from Naseeruddin Shah? A cop act with a difference. In the Ajay Phansekar film, Encounter, The Killing
, he is a cop with a mission. After he and his team kill three sharpshooters in an encounter, there comes a peculiar situation in which two of the three dead bodies are claimed by their families but the third remains unidentified. Inspector Bharucha (Naseer) decides to trace the family of the third person. That leads to a second encounter: but this time, with middle class realities. A small-budget film produced by Mumbai distributor Shyam Shroff, Jairaj Patil and the director himself, this film became a possibility the day Naseer saw Raatrarambh
(Beginning of the Night), a Marathi film Phansekar directed around six years ago. "Naseer saab saw the film and liked it so much that he promised to work on my venture when I had a good script ready," recalls Phansekar. The film also has Tara Deshpande, a reporter who helps the inspector in his mission and Dilip Prabhawalkar who plays an underworld operator.
