Reliance: Rs 500 crore optical-fibre cable (OFC) network in southern states and Maharashtra. Plans to have company-owned petrol stations as service nodes.

BPL: Rs 500 crore project for an OFC backbone linking Bangalore, Chennai & Pune. Plans a national backbone linking four metros with Bangalore.

Spectranet: Rs 2,000 crore national backbone connecting 40 cities. 170 km OFC backbone covering Delhi and Gurgaon worth Rs 100 crore already complete.

WorldTel: Rs 450 crore project to set up OFC network in Tamil Nadu. Similar projects planned for 9 other states.

Hinduja Group: Tied up with Pacific Internet to offer broadband services through cable TV route. Plans a 1,400-km OFC Internet and telecom backbone in Gujarat, connecting 33 cities.

Indian Railways: Plans a Rs 5,000-crore OFC backbone alongside 62,800 km of railway track covering the entire country.

Power Grid Corporation of India: Looking for partners in the domestic long-distance routes.

Enron & Global Telesystems: Rs 600 crore project to build 5,000 km OFC link across Maharashtra.

Bharti Enterprises: Plans to enter the national long distance route. Plans to set up an OFC backbone as well.

MTNL: Rs 1,000 crore proposal to enter the national long distance route.
