Parental Guidance

  • Tell your daughter about menstruation in advance so that she’s not caught unawares by her first period. Don’t depend only on her biology teacher to tell her in school.
  • Your daughter’s breasts will begin to develop one or two years before she begins her period. This is the sign that she’s approaching puberty.
  • Instil in her a respect for her body so that she grows up healthily.
  • Irregular periods are common in young girls. Don’t panic if in the beginning she skips a period.
  • Teach her how to use and change sanitary pads/napkins and help her find ones that suit her. Encourage good personal and genital hygiene, especially during periods.
