Be it Arya, Nenuokkadine or Nannaku Prematho, Sukumar enriches the narrative through psychological insight. NTR Jr (Abhi), with an unusual hairstyle and classy wardrobe, steers clear of loud histrionics. His young London boy out to avenge his ailing father’s (Rajendra Prasad) financial humiliation at the hands of the wily Krishna Murthy (Jagapathi Babu) is completely believable. He uses his mathematical genius and psychological nous to unravel Murthy’s empire. The first step is, of course, to woo the daughter of the opponent, Rakul Preet. Based loosely on Now You See Me and Focus, Nannaku Prematho does not get too emotional. Both NTR Jr and Jagapathi Babu are subtle; they eschew flaring nostrils and gory fights but advance stealthily, in chess-like manoeuvres. Jagapathi Babu excels in the role of a salad-chewing, coffee-sipping businessman who uses golf balls to decide his enemy’s fate. NTR Jr sings Follow Follow like a pro and his dance moves are bang on. You won’t find yourself laughing too much or shedding copious tears, but you are hooked. There are loopholes in the plot and an attempt to show off, but that is forgivable.
