The Centre for Media Studies’ (CMS) methodology for pre-poll surveys is based on voting analysis and understanding of the political processes. The model relies on three S’s—size of sample, spread of sample within a constituency and selection procedures of respondents.

The survey was conducted between April 19 and 29. In all, 76 constituencies were covered. Nearly 7,859 voters were interviewed. In each constituency, three villages and an urban centre were chosen where a total of 100 voters were interviewed

Care was taken to see that the opinions were gathered from a cross-section of the population representing various caste/community groups. Further, an equal proportion of male and female voters were contacted.
