What’ll be the highlight of your collection?

How did you manage this prestigious invite?
I was contacted by Altaroma, the organisation that takes care of the RFW. They had a history of my previous collections and recommendations from buyers.

You were missing at the Wills IFW...
The response to my last year’s ‘Flapper Girl’ collection packed me with orders from eight countries for the next 1.5 years. I won’t be able to do justice to more orders.

What other fashion events of the year will you participate in?
The plan is to do one good show a year. This year it will be only RFW.

Your take on the two fashion weeks?
Competition is good but one fashion week represented the indivisibility of our fraternity.

International fashion brands are entering India. Will Indian designers survive them?
The issue may be, will they survive us? History proves that just a brand name is not enough, good value proposition is also required.

Ever thought of designing clothes for films?
I have been asked to do a film but it didn’t excite me. I believe my clothes to be pieces of art that can’t be dictated by a director.

Calcutta is producing good fashion designers. The secret is...
Fashion is an art and Bengal has always been an art hub. Now the rest of India is realising it.

The economic revival is also helping?
Yes. There’s no better place than Calcutta today. We owe this to our dynamic CM.

Any style advice for him?
He’s an immaculate dresser. Maybe he should go for rimless or half-rimmed glasses.
