The law has finally caught up with former Mumbai police commissioner R.S. Sharma in the Telgi stamp paper scam. On November 27, the Bombay High Court ordered the special investigating team (SIT) to file a chargesheet against Sharma for his role in the scam. Earlier, the SIT had levelled at least nine charges of omission and commission against him—primarily, that Sharma hampered investigations when the scam first broke in Pune while he was the police chief there. The SIT filed two new reports in court making several new charges against Sharma and asked for his suspension. The state government has also instituted a departmental inquiry. And Sharma may lose out on his post-retirement benefits.
