Swinging alluringly between fin de siecle and fashion-forward Paris, Les Parisiennes lies, in contrast, amidst the warren of lanes in Shahpur Jat. Housed in an exquisite haveli, the shop’s furniture and food is in tune with its aesthetic synthesis, beckoning all to a different realm.
The enticing delicacies the cafe offers includes the weekend-dinner menu of Zucchini Ricotta quiche and Croque Monsieur (Bite Mister), accompanied by refreshing glasses of French apple and plum juice, and augmented by delicious home-baked hot chocolate fondant and lemon madeleine.
The quiche was tailored as an appetiser and the salad that accompanied it was fresh and juicy, with a variety of lettuce and rocket leaves tossed in a little vinaigrette and salad dressing. The quiche was pleasingly delicate, yet explosive with its creamy texture and decoration of oregano. On the downside, the base of the pastry was a bit overcooked.
The Croque Monsieur was the dish of the day—layered with melted cheese on top of toasted bread with pieces of pork ham in the centre, it had a quintessential seasoning of herbs. However, the Spaghetti Pesto sauce proved disappointing. The final act was scripted by the hot chocolate fondant and lemon madeleine, though the latter was marginally overpowered by the former. Apart from being home-baked, these errant desserts made my day; the hot chocolate fondant was delightfully sinful!
Les Parisiennes is a pleasant introduction to French cuisine. The moreish goodies are competitively priced too!
