Meal for two without alcohol:

Now that Delhi diners are no longer strangers to good Italian cooking, new Italian restaurants have higher standards to meet. We know what good pesto is, we know what size our primi piatti should be, we know we like our pizza base crisp. So at Cibo, restaurateur Alok Aggarwal has some homework to do on the front that matters most—the food. Our meal began promisingly. The bread basket is ample. Make the most of it. Next up was a gorgeous caponata. Flavourful, tangy, sweet. After that it was all downhill. Whether it was the linguine al pesto (needs more pesto), fusilli with zucchini and gorgonzola (needs more gorgonzola), the mixed seafood pizza al scoglio, or the charlotte sponge for dessert, there was hardly any flavour or texture that made an impression. Still, there was that sublime caponata. I’d give Cibo a second chance. Rohit Bal, Aggarwal’s partner in their earlier venture Veda, has created a lovely space in a prime Delhi location. The decor is expectedly over-the-top, and you may tune out the gigantic grapes installation in the courtyard. But there’s beautiful tile work on the walls, gorgeous stained glass doors, old wooden tables... just the place to take somebody you want to impress.
