Commitment won over glamour in the Outlook-Cfore poll to assess who makes the best role model today. A young Sania Mirza emerged as the universal choice as the woman on top.

Who are the favourite role models of Indian women, and why? Outlook commissioned the research organisation, Cfore, to conduct a survey in 10 cities—Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Indore, Chandigarh, Lucknow and Kochi— between late October and early November. Women who were ranked in last year’s Top 12 list were not included in this year’s survey. Cfore researchers administered a structured questionnaire to a statistically selected sample of 1,017 women, all above 18, and either college-going or graduates. They were then asked to rank 15 women selected by Outlook on a 10-point scale. Spunk, determination, commitment and attitude—rather than empty glamour—are clearly the flavour of 2005.
