The murder of the TDP’s controversial MLA Paritala Ravi and the violence that followed has once again exposed the tinderbox that is Andhra Pradesh politics. Ravi, a dreaded faction leader linked to some 40 murders died as he lived—by the gun. His killing has pushed the bloody faction feuds of Rayalaseema back into the spotlight. The TDP was quick to demand the resignation of the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government and a CBI inquiry into the murder which Reddy has agreed to. Ravi’s father-in-law has charged YSR’s son Jagan, Rayalaseema IG R.P. Meena and panchayat raj minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy with the murder conspiracy. Meanwhile, TDP supporters went on a rampage as chief Chandrababu Naidu called for a state-wide bandh. At the end, 200 buses lay burnt or and many buildings damaged.
