Jagdish Tytler, minister for Non-Resident Affairs (NRA), won’t be sulking for long now. The Delhi Sadar MP had unleashed a ‘give-me-some-work’ campaign via the capital’s dailies, reports alleging how he was being marginalised by foreign minister Natwar Singh. Well, he can rest easy. A standing committee on external affairs report has asked that the NRA ministry be allotted more work and its finances augmented. Moreover, a GoM headed by defence minister Pranab Mukherjee has decided that the new ministry should manage scholarships for children of overseas Indians as well as handling the high-profile Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and all NRI-related publicity. All that media management by Tytler, it seems, hasn’t gone to waste.
