The Ice-Cream Scoop

Telangana is reeling under a heat wave, but would one buy ice-cream for Rs 5 lakh? Apparently some would, if it is sold by K. Tarakrama Rao, son of CM K. Chandrasekhara Rao, a minister and his possible successor. TRS MP Malla Reddy dished out Rs 5 lakh for the scoop as KTR donned a chef’s hat and an apron for the fund-raiser. Within minutes, he had raised Rs 7.5 lakh. His sister K. Kavitha, MP from Nizamabad, chipped in with Rs 7 lakh by selling sarees. This was part of the CM’s Gulabi (pink is the official colour of TRS) Coolie Days call to leaders to collect funds for the TRS formation day events on April 27.

A Political Start-Up

Psephologist-turned-politician Yogendra Yadav’s party, Swaraj India, is contesting the Delhi Municipal elections, but does not have the requisite money. Yadav, in a candid letter to acquaintances, has made an appeal to contribute for a “political start-up with a vision and a concept”, launched on October 2, 2016. A founder member of AAP, Yadav was expelled for anti-party activities. Now, poll-ready with his outfit, he claims his aim is not to capture power but to “redefine it”. In his letter, he terms politics as the “yugdharma of our times”. Quips a BJP leader, “Yadav should know that start-ups are going bust and not many are likely to give him funds. A brave act nonetheless by him, considering he lost his deposit in Lok Sabha elections from Gurgaon.”

It began: “You agree to keep in strict confidence all information...relating to the Project including the concept of the Project...whether obtaining in writing, orally or by any other means....” More legalese continued over the next pages. All this to wine and dine with a radical writer. But last heard, the NDA project was junked.

Overheard “Mayawati is trying to unite the Opposition not to stop the BJP, but to get support for retaining her Rajya Sabha seat that expires in April, 2018. BSP does not have enough MLAs....”
