Bihar
An Eligible Bachelor

Bihar’s deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav may have been called the ‘most eligible bachelor’ by BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha after he was inundated with thousands of marriage proposals on WhatsApp on his official number, but he appears to be wary of the attention. At first, he thanked God he was not married! Then, he said his parents would decide his marriage. But when newshounds continued to pester him, an exasperated Tejashwi pleaded to be let off. “I know if the media goes after anybody, he remains a bachelor,” he reportedly said, leaving all guessing who he was alluding to.

Still Pressing On

It has been over two years since BJP leader Vijay Jolly was removed from the convenor’s post of Overseas Friends of BJP. But, undeterred, he continues with his networking activities. He unfailingly sends out press statements about his meetings with foreign dignitaries. The latest was about meeting Mali’s ambassador to India Niankoro Yeah Samake. Jolly, best remembered for defacing a journalist’s name-plate three years ago, presented a Ganesha statue to Samake, and claimed he “profusely praised PM Narendra Modi for his charismatic leadership”. Jolly may not find it easy to get the PM’s attention, but he managed an invitation to lead a delegation of “Friends of Mali”.

Titular Race

Like his foreign travels, Narendra Modi’s foreign policy is eagerly discussed. Two books on the subject were released last month and both are named The Modi Doctrine. One is by Sreeram Chaulia, a professor at the O.P. Jindal Global University, and has a foreword by Shaurya Doval, son of Ajit Doval. The other, containing several essays, is edited by Vijay Chauthaiwale, BJP foreign affairs in charge, Uttam K. Sinha of the IDSA and Anirban Ganguly of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation. The foreword is by Arun Jaitley. In a clash of titles, we leave the choice to readers.

Heard A Trinamool MP tells Outlook: “Don’t be fooled by anyone’s simple attire. Just because some saris are white doesn’t mean they are cheap. They are ‘designer’ saris that can cost over Rs 40,000 each!”

Overheard The infighting in SP has left Bihar CM Nitish Kumar in a quandary. He wants a Bihar-like grand alliance in UP, but doesn’t know if he should align with Mulayam or Akhilesh, or avoid both.
