Damadamm is stuffed with the looniest lyrics of 2011: “Jab tum jaati ho, jaldi nahin aati ho, I miss you baby, like mango”; “No touching, only seeing”; “Hum tum train ki do patriyon ki tarah”; “A love that has chemistry, a love that has no mystery”. These songs don’t add up to anyone’s idea of great music, but Damadamm is nothing more than a series of such music videos. There is an apology of a story. Poor boy Sameer (Himesh) is saddled with a possessive, mistrusting girlfriend Shikha (Purvi). He smoothly switches over to the new pretty young thing in office, Sanjana. Then, Shikha reveals her kind, understanding side and Sameer wants to glide back to her—just as smoothly. Some priceless dialogues are tossed in: “Marriage is about redeeming your sins through suffering”; “Break-up is like getting relief from five years of constipation”. One was expecting Damadamm to be a kitschy, low-brow laugh riot. Instead, it turns out to be utterly boring and confused, randomly shifting gears from the comic to the melodramatic. Himesh pulls strange faces, acts like a kid rehearsing for a school play, Purvi is either gratingly loud or insufferably weepy. Go for this only if you want to be rocked to sleep.
