This Id, it is Salman Mubarak. However, fans be warned that Bodyguard does not offer them the familiar Sallu bhaigiri. For instance, there’s just one line in the style of the bhai brand of dialoguebaazi: “Mujhpe itna ahsaan karna ki mujhpe koi ahsaan na karna”. Salman is toned down, behaves like a good boy and sports a doubly blank expression. The risque humour is replaced by the inane, infantile sort in the form of an irritating character called Tsunami Singh and bhai’s shirt comes off towards the fag end with the aid of a hosepipe and lots of water. But the fans, they are still swooning. Why? Because of the long, comic-action scenes in which Salman improvises on the stunts (like leaping from the north-bound train to the west-bound one) and musical set-pieces in which he shows off some new moves and steps. The song-’n-dance and action is held together by a flimsy juvenile story about Lovely Singh (Sallu) who protects Divya Ma’am (Kareena) only to have her fall in love with him. In the last half hour, the film suddenly transforms into a wicked version of Kuchh Kuchh Hota Hai, right down to the precocious kid. Not that anyone seemed to notice. In a Salman film, Salman is the be all and the end all.
