Till last week, if you had asked Faisal Naqvi his defining moment as a Pakistani, he would have said it was the '92 World Cup. He was in the US then, enrolled in a prestigious law school. As Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan, now a bitter opponent of President Asif Ali Zardari, lifted the glittering cup at 7 am American time, a jubilant Faisal "bhangraed" his way into class, much to the amusement of his American mates. But now, if someone were to ask Faisal that same question, he says he would answer without any hesitation whatsoever that it was the Long March of March 16.

For Faisal, this defining moment has a particular personal resonance too, because, as a lawyer, he was there among the multitudes participating in the Long March to Islamabad for the reinstatement of Iftikhar Chaudhry, the chief justice of Pakistan who was unceremoniously sacked by former military dictator Pervez Musharraf.
