Delhi Capitals defeated Punjab Kings by 17 runs at the DY Patil Stadium on Monday to advance to the top four in IPL 2022 table. The Rishabh Pant-led team currently has 14 points from 13 games and it is now among the hot contenders for the remaining three playoff spots. Talking about the game, Mitchell Marsh’s 63 took DC to 159/7 despite Liam Livingstone's 3/27 and Arshdeep Singh's 3/37. In reply, PBKS got off to a flying start scoring 53/1 in 5.3 overs. But once Shardul Thakur dismissed Bhanuka Rajapaksa, PBKS' second wicket, it opened the floodgates and DC never looked back since then. Shardul returned 4/36, while Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav returned identical figures of 2/14 as Delhi restricted Punjab at 142/9 in 20 overs. While a win made DC's case for playoff strong, a loss to PBKS meant their chances of final-four finish are almost over. (Scorecard | IPL Points Table | Full Schedule)

Shardul Thakur - Player Of The Match

"I always like to perform in crunch times, the last two games were important and I always feel happy when I rise to the right occasion. 6th over was a big over where I got two wickets, they were cruising and in both innings fast bowlers were going for runs in the powerplay and as soon as the powerplay ended, the runs stopped. The spinners came in and did a good job... I'm preparing well and whenever I got the chance, trying to put some score and hoping I will continue my run with the bat."

    Delhi Capitals Win!

Delhi Capitals have won the match by 17 runs. Eight runs came off Shardul Thakur's last over and he missed a fifer as David Warner dropped a catch in it.

    PBKS Need 26 In 6

Shardul Thakur comes to bowl the last over. He has taken four wickets so far. Can he get a fifer?

  • 16 May 2022 / 11:10 PM

Another wicket for Shardul Thakur and this might be the game for DC. Kagiso Rabada is out on 6 off 2 and DC are just one wicket away from getting another step closer to playoffs.

    Jitesh Is Out!

Shardul Thakur, the man with the golden arm, has struck again! He has dismissed the fighter Jitesh Sharma (44 off 34). David Warner took a brilliant catch and long-on to send Jitesh packing. This seems more like DC's game from here on.

    PBKS 123/8 (17.4)

  • 16 May 2022 / 11:02 PM

    Superb Confidence

Rahul Chahar played three dot balls in the over of Khaleel Ahmed but still backed him to go for big shots rather than giving the strike back to Jitesh Sharma. Chahar then hit Khaleel for a SIX and a FOUR before capping off the over with a couple. 12 runs came off it.

    PBKS 121/7 (17)

  • 16 May 2022 / 10:56 PM

    PBKS Rely On Jitesh

Jitesh Sharma is 43 not out on 32. He has kept Punjab Kings alive in this game. They need 51 in 24 and Kagiso Rabada is still to bat. PBKS have a chance here if Jitesh can stay till the end.

    PBKS 109/7 (16)

  • 16 May 2022 / 10:45 PM

    Lucky Jitesh

Jitesh Sharma is riding his luck. While on the first occasion he survived a run-out chance, on the second he edged a Anrich Nortje delivery but the ball fell behind the wicketkeeper and ran for a four. PBKS need 71 in 36.

    PBKS 89/7 (14)

  • 16 May 2022 / 10:35 PM

The situation gets worse for PBKS. Rishi Dhawan has been bowled by Axar Patel. Rishi tried to play a sweep shot and a smart Axar slowed the pace of the delivery and bowled it away from him to make the batsman miss the ball. The ball hit the outside edge of off stump.

    PBKS 82/7 (12.4)

  • 16 May 2022 / 10:33 PM

    PBKS Need 80 In 48

Kuldeep Yadav conceded 10 runs off his third over. Meanwhile, the required run rate remains at 10 for PBKS. They are still in the game as Kagiso Rabada who has not come out to bat yet can also contribute with a handy knock.

    PBKS 80/6 (12)

  • 16 May 2022 / 10:22 PM

    Kuldeep Strikes Again!

That's a beautiful delivery from Kuldeep Yadav. It spun into Harpreet Brar, who provided a big gap between bat and pad for the ball to hit his stumps. Maybe he also got an edge of his bat also but who cares about that. The important thing is that PBKS are six down now.

    PBKS 67/6 (9.3)

    Another WICKET

What is itching Punjab Kings? It is hard to understand. Their attacking brand of cricket is backfiring at the moment. Liam Livingstone departs now on 3 off 5. He danced down the track to hit Kuldeep Yadav for a maximum and missed the ball completely to get stumped out. Poor batting from PBKS. The required run rate is around 8 and still they are looking to hit every ball for a boundary.

    PBKS 61/5 (8)

  • 16 May 2022 / 10:09 PM

Mayank Agarwal has been cleaned up by Axar Patel. Oh, what a game this is turning out to be! Poor batting from Agarwal and DC won't mind it.

    PBKS 55/4 (6.3)

  • 16 May 2022 / 10:05 PM

    Shardul Strikes Again!

This is brilliant bowling from Shardul Thakur. He has now got the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan and the match hangs in balance now. PBKS have lost their top-three by the end of six overs with 54 runs on the board.

    Rajapaksa Falls Cheaply!

Bhanuka Rajapaksa was playing with fire and eventually pays the price. He was new to the crease yet he was throwing his bat to everything and that made the task really easy for bowler Shardul Thakur who must have sensed the wicket early on. Rajapaksa departs on 4 off 5 after getting caught at short third man.

    PBKS 53/2 (5.4)

  • 16 May 2022 / 9:47 PM

A slower short ball from Anrich Nortje and he has trapped Jonny Bairstow. The English batsman hit it directly into the hands of fine leg fielder Axar Patel. He departs on 28 off 15.

    13-Run Over

Khaleel Ahmed was hit by both Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan for boundaries on the third over of the innings. It started with a sensational slog sweep for a SIX from the English batter and the Indian opener then capped off the over with a FOUR.

    Second Innings Underway

Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan have come out to bat. The English batsman will take the strike. Khaleel Ahmed has the new ball in hand. Here we go!

Six runs came off the over from Khaleel. He got some good swing and troubled Bairstow but was unlucky enought to not get a wicket.

    DC Post 159/7

Seven runs came off the last over of Arshdeep Singh and Delhi Capitals have a fighting total on the board.

  • 16 May 2022 / 9:09 PM

    Another WICKET

A lower full toss from Arshdeep Singh and Shardul Thakur hits the ball straight down the thoat of long-on fielder Harpreet Brar. Delhi Capitals just cannot get going. Whenever they get momentum, they lose wickets.

    DC 154/7 (19.3)

  • 16 May 2022 / 9:02 PM

Kagiso Rabada has trapped Mitchell Marsh. He bowled it full on the legs of Marsh as the Aussie batter walked across to take him on. Marsh hit it high in front of deep mid-wicket fielder Rishi Dhawan and the latter took a really good catch diving forward. Marsh exits on 63 off 48.

    DC 149/6 (18.2)

  • 16 May 2022 / 8:53 PM

    Fifty For Marsh

Mitchell Marsh gets to his fifty im 40 balls. It was bowled outside off stump from Harpreet Brar and the Australian batter hit it for a FOUR in front of point. It's his time to bail out DC now and take them to a respected total because this looks like a good batting surface.

    DC 129/5 (16.4)

  • 16 May 2022 / 8:50 PM

    Livingstone Returns 3/27

That's the end of a sesational spell from Liam Livingstone. He ends his quota by taking three wickets and conceding 27 runs. This was definitely an out of syllabus thing for Delhi Capitals and that's the reason it will hurt them even more.

    DC 123/5 (16)

  • 16 May 2022 / 8:39 PM

Big wicket for Liam Livingstone. He has dismissed Rovamn Powell on two off six balls. Delhi Capitals are losing the plot after a good start. This is poor batting from them.

    DC 112/5 (13.3)

  • 16 May 2022 / 8:33 PM

    Pant Is Out!

Liam Livingstone strikes again! He has trapped Rishabh Pant after conceding a SIX. Pant came out to hit Livingstone again but the spinner smartly bowled it wide of Pant's reach. As a result, the southpaw completely missed the ball and PBKS wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma did the rest behind the stumps.

    DC 107/3 (12)

  • 16 May 2022 / 8:27 PM

Arshdeep Singh has outfoxed Lalit Yadav. He bowled him a slower bouncer keeping the ball away from the him and Lait mistimed it to point fielder.

    DC Change Gears

8.2 -  SIX! That's a beautiful slog-sweep from Lalit Yadav. Rahul Chahar wanted to keep the ball outside off stump but Lalit took him on and delivered the ball into the stands over deep mid-wicket.

Eight runs came off the over.

    DC 82/2 (9)

  • 16 May 2022 / 8:11 PM

    Good Batting

Despite the wicket of Sarfaraz Khan, both DC batters - Mitchell Marsh and Lalit Yadav have played well to keep the side going. The best thing about their small partnership has been the rotation of strike and punishing the poor balls.

    DC 74/2 (8)

  • 16 May 2022 / 8:06 PM

    Unimpressive Rahul Chahar

Rahul Chahar has looked far from his best this season. He has leaked runs and hasn't looked confident. Eight runs come off his first over that included a poor ball outside off stump that was hit by Mitchell Marsh for a FOUR.

    DC 67/2 (7)

  • 16 May 2022 / 8:02 PM

    Good Start For DC

Considering that they lost their in-form batsman David Warner on the first ball of the innings, DC would be happy with the score of 59 in the first powerplay. Now it's time for Mitchell Marsh to dug in his heels and play the anchor's role.

    DC 59/2 (6)

  • 16 May 2022 / 7:55 PM

This is the end of Sarfaraz Khan's beautiful cameo at the top. He mistimed a shot towards long-on. The ball stayed in air for a long time and this gave mid-on fielder Rahul Chahar a chance to run to his back and take the catch. Sarfaraz is out on 32 off 16.

    DC 51/2 (4.5)

  • 16 May 2022 / 7:45 PM

    6, 4, 4 - Sarfaraz On Fire!

Sarfaraz Khan smashes Harpreet Brar for 14 runs in the last three balls of the latter's over. The new DC opener is looking extremely good at the middle and this seems like a superb batting track.

    DC 35/1 (3)

  • 16 May 2022 / 7:38 PM

    Back-to-back SIXES

1.3 - This is what you call a picture-perfect shot. It was bowled full from Kagiso Rabada and Mitchell Marsh picked it beautifully for a SIX over long-on. Seemed like just an extension of elbow but the ball went for a SIX

1.4 - Another SIX from Marsh! A similar shot but this time the ball goes wide of long-off.

15 runs came off the over.

    DC 20/1 (2)

  • 16 May 2022 / 7:33 PM

Livingstone has struck on the very first ball of the innings. He has dismissed David Warner for a first-ball duck. It was tossed up delivery outside off and Warner hit it directly into the hands of point fielder.

    DC 0/1 (0.1)

  • 16 May 2022 / 7:30 PM

    It's Game Time

David Warner takes strike, Sarfaraz Khan is at the other end. Oh, here is the surprise element. Liam Livingstone will bowl the first over.

  • 16 May 2022 / 7:24 PM

    Approaching Milestone

Delhi's Axar Patel, who has taken 99 wickets at an average of 30.73 in 119 innings of 120 matches, needs just one wicket to become 18th bowler to complete a century of wickets in IPL.

  • 16 May 2022 / 6:36 PM

    Openers Key

Both PBKS and DC will depend on their openers tonight. Mitchell Marsh slammed 89 off 62 balls against a quality Rajasthan Royals attack and that should set up the Aussie nicely against Punjab's lead bowler Kagiso Rabada. The powerplay will be very crucial.
