A total of INR 3,88,10,00,000 was spent on day 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru on Saturday. 74 cricketers, including 20 overseas players, were picked by 10 franchises. But the day also witnessed auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapse mid-way and Charu Sharma feeling in for him. Ishan Kishan was the biggest earner, pocketing INR 15.25 crore with Mumbai Indians bid hard to retain their wicketkeeper. On Sunday, auction will start at 12 noon.

Kishan, 23, is now the second-most expensive Indian player in IPL auction history, only behind Yuvraj Singh (INR 16 cr in 2015). But the most heartening thing that happened on the day was pacers getting their dues. Five of them touched the magic INR 10 crore mark with Deepak Chahar earning INR 14 crore. Among the batters, Shreyas Iyer was the pick while Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga shared the all-rounder honours. Catch highlights here:
