Special Appearance

Look no further. This bespectacled, preppy sophomore type is Aamir Khan’s new ‘wife’. Yes, the very one we wanted a glimpse of: assistant director Kiran Rao. While the media generated reams of speculative newsprint, it was only a blurred mugshot of Kiran we had to live by. All this while Aamir, his Mutiny mooch still in place, has been busy holidaying with his lady in the UK. Here they’re seen at Shahrukh Khan’s show in London. So, are they married? He says no. She’s tight-lipped. But they sure are holding on tight.

Villain's Diary

Bollywood’s legendary ‘gentleman-villain’ at last gets his due—a biography, And Pran, by journalist Bunny Reuben. Releasing the book, the Big B read out the foreword penned by himself. The book has rare nuggets like how Pran was actually cast as the hero opposite Noorjehan in the 1942 film Khandaan. But stardom took the villainous route.

PM & The Shebang

If you wanted to test the glamour quotient of the media (strictly in a non-page 3 way), you should have been at Delhi’s Taj Palace Hotel last Monday. They turned up in full strength to celebrate ten years of the Indian Women’s Press Corps. And guess who they roped in? Dr Manmohan Singh, a key source for many journos 10 years ago, who rendered a dull but correct speech. But he looked singularly relaxed in the company of the powerpen girls.

Diamond Waist

Pooja Bedi will always remember October 5. After all, will there be another chance to wear 8,000 diamonds? She was modelling the world’s costliest kamarbandh (waist band), priced at Rs 2 crore, at a charity event organised by Satya Paul and Savera, an NGO working among breast cancer patients. Designed by Ishi’s, the kamarbandh was not on sale. But other items were auctioned, the proceeds of which went to Savera.

Inspiron '04

Now Rajnikanth is unsure of his ground in cinema. His last film Baba was a disaster. Jaggubhai, announced in May ’04, was shelved. Again, on Sivaji Ganesan’s birth anniversary he announced Chandramukhi. Sivaji Productions is making a movie after 10 years. It’s believed to be a remake of the Kannada hit Apthamitra, which was ‘inspired’ by Fazil’s Manichitrathazhu in Malayalam. Doubly inspiring!

As the sun set on the Sandy Lane resort, Barbados, golfer Tiger Woods tied the knot to his Swedish girlfriend Elin Nordegren. They met three years ago when she was babysitting the kids of another golfer. Here’s to more putting.
