Mark Zuckerberg-led Facebook parent Meta layoffs have finally started for the final round. As per reports, Meta layoffs, as announced before, have started across WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook.

According to The Guardian, Meta Platforms Inc has started these layoffs as a part of its global restructuring plan announced earlier. Before this, the Zuckerberg-led tech giant slashed around 11,000 jobs in November, 2022.

Previous media reports also suggested that this final round of Meta layoffs would impact employees in business teams. On Wednesday, some employees also took to LinkedIn and reportedly said that this round of mass layoffs is expected to cut deep and axe jobs in ad sales, marketing and partnership teams.

Referring to mass layoffs, Mark Zuckerberg in March announced that this round of job cuts is expected to be executed in three phases and over several months. However, the process is expected to end as early as May.

While several experts have predicted mass layoffs to continue in all of 2023, Meta doesn’t expect a major round after this. However, Mark Zuckerberg previously, did specify that smaller rounds of layoffs may continue even after this.

During Meta’s townhall meeting too, it was clear to employees that Facebook-parent was downsizing and trimming more non-engineering roles, as per reports. Hence, even though the company continues its hiring in some strategic areas, the roles are limited.

Meta layoffs come on the backdrop of a global economic downturn. Like the tech giant, several other companies like Google, Amazon, Cognizant etc too., downsized and reduced costs by laying off employees.
