Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, Minister for Industrial Development and Investment Promotion in the Uttar Pradesh government, lauded the state government's efforts to make UP a safe haven for industrialists to do their business. Speaking in the aftermath of the roadshow organised by UP government to promote its upcoming Global Investors Summit (GIS), Nandi further noted that the new Uttar Pradesh is ready to welcome industrialists with a red carpet.

Following the roadshow held in New Delhi on Friday, several ministers and other senior officials of the UP government held meetings with leading industrialists at The Oberoi Hotel in the capital city. At the event, the representatives of the UP government invited the industrialists to attend the Global Industry Summit which is scheduled to be held in Lucknow from 10 to 12 February, 2023.

Regarding UP’s recent growth, Nandi said, “Between 2017 and 2022, UP became ‘Uttam Pradesh’ (uppermost state) and is now moving towards becoming ‘Sarvottam Pradesh’ (the best state) under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

“Yogi ji and the whole UP government is working collectively to make UP's economy touch $1 trillion,” he added.

The minister said that UP is a growing economy, with 37.7 per cent of expressways, and is also making the Ganga expressway. “Very soon, over 50 per cent of the expressways in India will be in UP,” the Industry Minister claimed in his address.

The event was virtually addressed by CM Yogi Adityanath who also invited the industrialists to attend GIS in the second week of February 2023.

The easy connectivity offered by Uttar Pradesh was cited as one key reason for industrialists to invest in the state. Minister Nandi said, “In 2017, there were only 2 airports in UP, but now we have over 9 airports with access to fly to over 90 places from UP. Very soon we are also working on over 10 more airports, with five international airports.”

“Our Jewar airport project will be in the trial run by 2024. Moreover, we have 16,000 kilometers of the rail network, we are also working on the waterways network from Haldiya to Varanasi,” he added.

According to the minister, other factors that attract investors to the north Indian state include availability of fertile land, access to a large consumer market and effective law and order machinery.

Amitabh Kant, Government of India’s Sherpa for the G20 Summit, agreed that Uttar Pradesh has transformed the entire area in recent times. “My belief is that in the days to come UP will be the key state to drive India's growth and prosperity,” he said.

Other dignitaries who attended the roadshow in Delhi include UP cabinet ministers Arvind Kumar Sharma and Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary; ministers of state Sandeep Singh, Kapil Dev Aggarwal and Arun Kumar Saxena; and agriculture production commissioner Manoj Kumar Singh.

On Wednesday, in an earlier leg of the UP government’s roadshow, it was announced that 79 memorandums of understanding (MoU) worth Rs 76,000 crore were signed by the state.
