Tech layoffs 2023 only seem to be getting grim and tough for employees with several companies announcing job cuts every other day. In another major shock, Amazon layoffs are back and this time they may impact close to 9,000 roles at the company. As per media reports, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has announced about this fresh round of job cuts via a memo to staff.

According to an AP report, this second round of job cuts at Amazon will mostly impact staff in its cloud services, advertising and Twitch units. However, on the backdrop of recession fears, the CEO has also clarified that Amazon would continue hiring in its strategic areas.

Just like in the previous round of job cuts, even in this round, Andy Jassy has reportedly said that even though Amazon hired in substanial numbers over the last couple of years, due to economic crisis, the company is subjecting its employees to mass layoffs. For those not familiar with Amazon job cuts, before this round of layoffs, the company slashed close to 18,000 jobs in an already dismayed job market.

"Some may ask why we didn't announce these role reductions with the ones we announced a couple months ago. The short answer is that not all of the teams were done with their analyses in the late fall; and rather than rush through these assessments without the appropriate diligence, we chose to share these decisions as we've made them so people had the information as soon as possible," AP quoted Amazon CEO Andy Jassy as saying on tech layoffs 2023 at the company.

Amazon is not the only company resorting to another round of layoffs. Earlier this month even Facebook parent Meta announced another round of job cuts while continued hiring in strategic and necessary areas.
