Meta layoffs are back as Mark Zuckerberg-led tech giant reportedly plans another round of mass layoffs. As per updates, Facebook parent Meta is expected to start third round of job cuts as soon as this week.
According to The Verge, a recording of a company meeting affirmed that Meta layoffs are back to impact thousands of workers. Nick Clegg, President, Global Affairs, Meta reportedly said last week that a “third wave is going to happen next week.”
Last November when spree of tech layoffs had just started, the impact that Meta layoffs had was huge. After slashing 11,000 jobs in November, Meta later announced another round of job cuts that would affect additional 10,000 employees by the end of May.
While the number of affected people in this round of Meta layoffs is not certain, some international media reports suggest that about 6,000 workers are expected to be handed pink slips. This comes after Meta started cutting around 4,000 jobs in April, in its technology department.
However, as far as this third round of job cuts goes, employees in business-focused positions are expected to be impacted first, as per The Verge.
“It’s just a time of great anxiety and uncertainty....I wish I could have some easy way of providing solace or comfort. It is uncertain. And actually it’s really increased my admiration for the way that everyone – not withstanding that uncertainty – you’re just displaying such resilience and professionalism,” The verge quoted Clegg as saying as per a meeting recording obtained by Vox.
Meta layoffs are a part of the Mark Zuckerberg-led tech giant’s plans of ‘year of efficiency’ as the company navigates a global economic downturn just like its other tech peers.
