Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) eased the process of claim settlement for victims of the Odisha Train tragedy which has left at least 288 people dead and 1000 injured.
In a press release, LIC said that its Chairperson has announced the relaxations for the victims to expedite financial relief. The insurance provider said, “LIC Of India is deeply saddened by the tragic train accident in Balasore, Odisha on 02.06.2023. LIC Of India is committed to supporting those affected and will expedite claim settlements to provide financial relief. Shri Siddhartha Mohanty, Chairperson LIC expressed grief said that our hearts go out to the victims and their families.”
According to release, the process will be eased for claimants of LIC policies and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. The firm will accept the list of casualties published by Railway authorities, police or any state or central government authority as proof of death.
LIC also announced setting up of special help desk at the divisional and branch level to address queries of claimants. The claimants can reach out to the nearest branch/division/customer zones for further assistance, the release said.
“All efforts will be taken to ensure that the claimants are reached out and claims are settled expeditiously to the affected families,” the press release stated.
The accident occurred on Friday in which three trains were involved. The accident affected Coromandel Express, Howrah Superfast Express and a goods train. The accident is one of the deadliest railway accidents in Indian history. The government has ordered a high level inquiry into the incident.
