Billionaire Elon Musk-led Twitter has removed ‘legacy blue ticks’ of most account holders – business personalities, celebrities, officials etc., alike. As announced by the SpaceX and Tesla CEO, as of April 20, 2023, all those who did not subscribe to Twitter Blue and pay for the subscription, have lost their Twitter verification blue badge.
While it is not clear if all ‘legacy Twitter verified’ accounts have lost their blue ticks or not, it is certain that the social media platform has started the process of removing the verified badge. However, all those who have subscribed to Twitter Blue subscription, are reportedly receiving the message that reads, “This account is verified because they are subscribed to Twitter Blue and verified their phone number.”
Amidst all this chaos and new changes by Elon Musk, it is clear that now, the only way to get a blue badge/verified symbol on Twitter is by paying for the ‘Twitter Blue’ subscription. As per official updates, the paid subscription is currently available worldwide for $7 a month, if one signs up via browser. Please note that the cost of subscribing to Twitter Blue via browser and app, are different. Most of these rates have been adjusted based on purchasing parity.
As far as India goes, if one wants to be Twitter verified, please note that you will have to pay for Twitter Blue’s subscription. In India, Twitter Blue costs Rs 900 per month on iOS and Android and Rs 650 per month on web browser. However, the social media giant also offers a yearly plan of Rs 6,500.
By subscribing to Twitter Blue, users will not just get a blue tick/verified badge in front of their names but also several other benefits like priority tweets, more character length and so on.
