The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has reportedly scheduled a meeting with mobile phone operators to discuss the problems related to quality of services. As call drops and failures rise, the meeting has reportedly been scheduled for December 28.
With the launch of 5G services in India, call drops and failures are now emerging as key concerns, among all the other issues. Many users have also been complaining of facing problems while using these services.
As per a report by The Economic Times, the matter has been under discussion at the department. On December 23, it was decided that the operators should be approached to discuss the matter. Concerns over the escalating service quality difficulties are shared by the DoT and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
"The meeting will be overseen by telecom secretary K Rajaraman," The Economic Times quoted an official as saying. If DoT authorities or telecom operator executives are unavailable due to year-end holidays, it may also be shifted to the first week of January, the report adds.
The Quality of Services (QoS) criteria are now only being examined for telecom circles, not district or state-wise. The regulator receives data on telecom sites but not about cloud servers or other sites. The current phase has been referred to by telecom providers as a passing phenomenon. According to them, it will get better in about a month when devices synchronise with 5G networks.
The government has reportedly been pressuring mobile companies to raise the standards of service, as per an earlier report by The Economic Times. According to the report, DoT wrote to TRAI to discuss the issue and potential solutions. Additionally, the sector regulator was attempting to resolve the QoS issue. TRAI officials were meeting operators to develop a system for evaluating end-to-end network quality.
The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), a trade group, claims that telcos are still investing in improving network performance for India's more than a billion mobile users, as per the report.
