Donald Trump indictment has taken a new turn as the ex-President has reportedly said that he has been indicted on charges of mishandling classified documents. Updates suggest that the same took place at his Florida estate which led to a federal prosecution at a time when Trump is trying to gain control over the White House, once again.
According to an AP report, the Justice Department is yet to confirm Donald Trump’s indictment on these grounds. However, sources indicted to the publication that the former US President has been indicted on seven criminal counts and his lawyers were contacted shortly before the indictment announcement.
Before this, Donald Trump was indicted on criminal charges in alleged hush money case, in which ex-adult film star Stormy Daniels was also involved. The same took place in New York city by a grand jury, making it the first case of an ex/current US President indictment.
The publication’s report also said that Trump’s indictment “enmeshes the Justice Department” in of the most “politically explosive prosecution.” It adds, “Its first case against a former president upends a Republican presidential primary that Trump is currently dominating and any felony charges would raise the prospect of a yearslong prison sentence.”
As per AP, Donald Trump’s this indictment comes after a month-long investigation undertaken by special counsel Jack Smith. The same was done to know if Trump broke the law by holding onto hundreds of documents marked classified at his Palm Beach property and if he took steps to “obstruct government’s efforts to recover the records.
