Disney Star said Tata IPL 2023 has become the first ever cricket tournament to register more than 500 million viewers

Disney Star, the official television broadcaster of TATA IPL 2023, has recorded the biggest ever IPL on television. Tata IPL 2023 has become the first ever cricket tournament to register more than 500 million viewers. 

According to BARC, a staggering 505 million viewers tuned in to Disney Star’s live broadcast of the IPL games. Disney Star recorded 427.1 billion minutes of watch time for the live broadcast of the matches, showing the huge popularity of the tournament among the fans. In addition, the platform reported 32 per cent growth in television ratings (TVR) compared to the 2022 edition. 

"We are thankful for the overwhelming support of our fans, who joined us in our journey to make Tata IPL 2023 the most-watched Cricketing event in India's broadcast history,” Sanjog Gupta, Head of Sports, Disney Star said. 

“We would also like to express our sincere appreciation for the BCCI, the players, and the franchisees for putting on such a spectacle. We believe our #BetterTogether campaign and world-class coverage of the event bolstered the efforts of the entire ecosystem,” he added.

The final game between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) witnessed a peak concurrency of 64.1 million, the highest for IPL 2023. Moreover, 47 out of 74 games recorded peak concurrency of over 30 million. 

According to the statement by the broadcaster, the Hindi Speaking Markets broke records with 334 million fans watching the tournament, a growth of 47 per cent compared to last edition. 

Compared to the last edition, viewership among kids also jumped 64 per cent. In high-definition broadcasting, it reached 101 million viewers, three times higher compared to last year.
