Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras are expected to give a boost to small traders to further promote the country's exports, Secretary in the Department of Posts Vineet Pandey said here on Monday. He also said that due to its low cost structure, and simple process, the working of post offices is suitable for small and medium businesses.
The department, Pandey said, is working on a comprehensive plan to make its network useful for ODOP (one district one product) and small businesses of north eastern states. "Dak niryat kendras are expected to give a boost to small traders," he said here at an event organised by India Post - AMRITPEX-2023.
MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) accounts for 8 per cent of the country's, 45 per cent of total manufacturing output and 40 per cent of India's exports. India's merchandise exports rose by 9 per cent to USD 332.76 billion during April-December 2022.
ODOP is an initiative of the government to promote exports and manufacturing or production of unique products from all the districts of the country.
Speaking at the event, Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Anurag Jain said that the government is promoting GI (Geographical indications) products.
A GI is primarily an agricultural, natural or a manufactured product (handicraft and industrial goods) originating from a definite geographical territory. Typically, such a name conveys an assurance of quality and distinctiveness, which is essentially attributable to the place of its origin. The secretary also unveiled 12 postal stamps on GI goods.
