Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while announcing Union Budget for 2023-24 said that the government has extended the free food scheme to next year and the centre will borne the expense of Rs 2 lakh crore for the same under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana.
Government is implementing scheme to supply free grains to poor under PMGKAY with expenditure of Rs 2 lakh crore from January 1, Sitharaman said.
FM said that economy will grow at 7 per cent in the current year and it is the highest among major economies.
“India is on the right track despite time of challenges. Government's effort since 2014 have ensured better quality of life. We have made a significant progress in many development goals.” Sitharaman said.
Indian economy has increased in size from being 10th to 5th largest in last nine years and per capita income has increased to Rs 1.97 lakh, Sitharaman said.
She added that government’s efforts since 2014 have ensured better quality of life for citizens of the country.
