As a society, are we heading towards a tangled reality? - one that revels in constructing layered complexities until the discernible is completely masked and dons the garb of the impenetrability of understanding. The ongoing group exhibition, Measures of Lucidity, curated by Jitha Karthikeyan at Gallerie Splash, Delhi, raises these questions through the works of seven artists - Zakkir Hussain, George Martin PJ, Parvathi Nayar, Muktinath Mondal, Arpita Singh, TV Santhosh and KM Madhusudhanan.
The show is an attempt to deconstruct the complexities that plague our existence, to rethink the chaos and to seek pellucidity, lest we lose ‘what is’ amidst the cacophony of it all. Life and survival lie at the core of the minutiae we have missed or have chosen to ignore. The curatorial note talks of how we can find lucidity in all this if only we could navigate through complex social, political or economic layers to grasp them in our vision.

While Parvathi Nayar’s works consistently revolve around water in all its aspects, as an integral part of the environment as well as a meditative and metaphorical source, the works of Zakkir Hussain try to go beyond the beautiful to the horror veiled by the fascinating presence of beauty. His works travel through forgotten memories and can be read as amputations of the history of visual representations.
Political, social, economic and cultural agendas paradoxically surface in the works of Muktinath Mondal. His sense of responsibility towards telling the unheard stories of his culture Is clearly evident.
George Martin’s works play with an idea of an idea taking a physical form and where they are located in relation to each other while the combination of the personal and the political form the basis of Madhusudhanan’s works.

Arpita Singh’s singular work is a masterpiece from her earlier years and TV Santhosh’s concerns about global issues like war and terrorism and the manipulation of them by the media find their way into his works in the show, attempting to explore historical injustices and acts of violence.
Measures of Lucidity is on view until 15th February, 2023 at Gallerie Splash which was established around two decades ago with a vision to provide a stable platform for senior and upcoming contemporary artists.
The gallery is recognized for its long association with Modern and Post-modern Indian artists such as Krishen Khanna, Laxma Goud, Manu Parekh, Madhvi Parekh, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Thota Vaikuntam and Ashok Bhowmick and with contemporary artists like GR Iranna, Bose Krishnamachari, and many more.
The gallery operates in both online and offline platforms, with a vast gallery space that hosts major exhibitions frequently and also provides access to a wide collection of art works, information regarding artworks and advisory services. The flagship gallery is located in the heart of Golf Course Road, Gurgaon, Delhi NCR.
