London, England: According to WHO’s world malaria report for 2019, there were an estimated 228 million cases of malaria in 89 countries. India accounted for 58% of the patient population, followed by Indonesia at 30% and Myanmar at 10%. India has made good progress in reducing the overall cases, but the challenge still remains.

Dengue continues to be the most rapidly spreading vector-borne viral disease globally, with an increasing number of countries at risk. It continues to pose a substantial public health risk to a country like India. There are estimated 390 million dengue virus infections globally per year.

The estimated average cost of treatment dengue remains high. Total annual cost of dengue to public healthcare system is over US$8.89 billion, and this does not include the economic costs borne by the families, which can be substantial, especially for rural communities.
