B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute Of Science And Technology Is Granted Patent That Revolutionizes VFX Rendering Services In Cloud

As a breakthrough in the field of cloud intelligence for 3D animation and VFX media rendering, the B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, has been granted a patent for inventing “A method for acquiring Quality of Service and Quality of Experience of PaaS Cloud Renderfarm Services.” in 2023. The method revolutionizes the way cloud services are delivered and experienced by freelancers, small scale and large 3D animation and VFX studios.

Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology is a prestigious institution in Chennai, that has been awarded with an 'A' Grade for its excellence in providing Quality Education by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India. The patent has been obtained by the institute for the Ph.D. research work of its former senior research fellow Dr. Ruby Annette Jayaseela Dhanaraj who conducted her Ph.D research under the guidance of Dr. Aisha Banu of the Computer Science and Engineering department. Her work focused on addressing the challenges faced by freelancers, small scale and large 3D animation and VFX studios in evaluating and selecting the cloud renderfarms, which are used to provide high-performance computing services for fast and cost-effective rendering of complex 3D animations and simulations. However, one of the main challenges faced by cloud renderfarms is ensuring that the Quality of Service and Quality of Experience (QoS / QoE) provided to the end-users is of a high standard. This is particularly important for industries where a delay or interruption in rendering can have significant consequences. Dr. Ruby's method provides an innovative solution to this problem by using Artificial Intelligence techniques to acquire QoS / QoE of the PaaS Cloud Renderfarm Services. 

Speaking about the patent, Dr. Ruby said: "I am thrilled to have been granted this patent for my doctoral research work at the B.S Abdur Rahman Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai.  

A study by the researchers of the Yale University “Gender differences in obtaining and maintaining patent rights” has found that in the United States, women earn half of the doctoral degrees in science and engineering. But when it comes to patenting their inventions, they trail far behind men: Only 10% of patent-holders are women. Even in the life sciences, where women earn more than half of new PhDs, only 15% of inventors listed on patents are women. This motivated me to apply for a patent and I am grateful to B.S Abdur Rahman Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, my guide Dr. Aisha Banu and my doctoral committee members of the institute for supporting my efforts throughout my Ph.D. research and empowering me being a woman to get a patent granted in the field of Cloud Computing." 

The patent granted by the Indian Patent Office to the B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology is a significant major contribution to the field of cloud computing and VFX, animation industry. Dr. Ruby's work has already received recognition from industry experts and academics through consultation appointments and citations as the patented method makes a real difference in the way cloud services for rendering 3D animation and VFX industry are delivered and experienced by the VFX and animation media industry.
